Gareth began his career at Y&R Cape Town during a pivotal moment in the agency’s growth, as it emerged as a rising creative force under the leadership of one of the industry’s most respected Chief Creative Officers, Graham Lang.

During his time at Y&R, Gareth played a key role in the agency’s rapid ascent to becoming one of the country’s top creative shops. He contributed to work that achieved recognition at the highest level, earning accolades at prestigious local and global award shows including Cannes Lions, D&AD, The One Show, The Loeries, London International Awards, and the New York Festivals.

In 2016, Gareth joined FoxP2, an agency he had long admired for its ability to consistently deliver impactful and highly awarded work with a small but fiercely talented team, under the creative leadership of industry heavyweight Justin Gomes. At FoxP2, Gareth further honed his belief in the power of brutally simple ideas, elevated through craft, care, and attention to detail.

In 2020, Gareth stepped into a leadership role at Publicis Machine during what would become one of the most turbulent periods in advertising history. He led the creative direction for Heineken, a brand deeply impacted by South Africa’s alcohol bans and lockdown restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these challenges, Gareth and his team delivered strategically astute and creatively resilient work that helped the brand not only survive but grow in relevance and impact. It was during this time that Gareth also discovered a deep passion for mentorship and leadership, driven by the opportunity to pass on the insights and experience he had gained from years of working alongside some of the industry’s most inspiring figures.

In 2022, Gareth joined Ogilvy Cape Town, taking on key creative responsibilities across a portfolio of iconic brands. He was entrusted with the Volkswagen South Africa account, one of the most culturally resonant and creatively ambitious automotive brands in the market. Alongside this, he helped lead the creative work for some of AB InBev’s most loved and high-profile brands, including Castle Lager, Castle Lite, and Carling Black Label. In this role, Gareth brought together strategic clarity, conceptual rigor, and emotional storytelling to help shape work that resonated deeply with South African audiences and strengthened the creative voice of each brand across multiple platforms. His time at Ogilvy reaffirmed his ability to navigate large-scale brand ecosystems while still pushing for originality and craft at every touchpoint.
